Insitu is Committed to STEM Education

Next to our work creating and supporting unmanned aircraft systems, the most rewarding thing we do is help inspire the next generation of innovators. Here’s an at-a-glance look at how we nurture young, local talent through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education initiatives.

We strive to support a pipeline for full-circle education, building partnerships and creating proactive enthusiasm around STEM education in the spirit of building a strong community while bolstering talent for our industry.

STEM education outreach throughout the year includes:

Sponsorship of teams participating in FIRST Lego League, FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition. This is through the support of organizations like the Gorge Technology Alliance (GTA) and Oregon Robotics Tournament & Outreach Program (ORTOP).

STEM Student Tech Tours for high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and homeschool students in the Gorge

March for Science, local presentations, events and parades

Summer internship programs for high school and college students

Flying High

RoboFlight Academy (RFA) is an annual robotics program that brings high school students, Insitu engineers and aviation experts together the second week of July to build and fly unmanned aircraft.

Talking Tech

During Insitu’s annual STEM Student Tech Tour, high school students from the five-county Gorge region get a one-hour campus tour of Insitu so they can learn more about our career opportunities.

Student Career Day

The third annual Gorge Technology Alliance STEM Career Day took place at the Columbia Gorge Community College and Readiness Center in The Dalles, Oregon. More than 800 seventh graders from the five-county Columbia River Gorge region were invited to attend to hear inspiring presentations from 17 local area businesses, including Insitu.
