Movements of floods, forest fires and oil spills are difficult to predict. Persistent monitoring helps emergency response teams understand the threat to evacuate those who are in danger.




Intelligence from ScanEagle is used to track the progression of fires and hot spots of a 440,000-acre complex of fires in Alaska. Infrared sensors identify the edge of the fires, improving the accuracy of fire maps and provide other critical information to the incident command team. (August 2009)

 

Insitu, with University of North Dakota, conducts aerial flood plain surveillance of the Red River along the North Dakota/Minnesota border using the ScanEagle UAS. ScanEagle ISR data is used to monitor the way the river floods and recedes. (March 2010)

 

ScanEagle conducts damage assessment and aids in relief efforts as part of U.S. Northern Command, Joint Task Force Alaska’s Arctic Edge 2010 earthquake scenario training exercise at the University of Alaska’s Poker Flat Research Range. (April 2010)
