Somali pirates capture and hold for ransom the captain of the U.S. cargo ship Maersk Alabama. During the standoff a nearby rescue team operates Insitu’s ScanEagle unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to provide real-time situational awareness. The rescue mission is a success. (April 2009)
